Why does my Broadband crash every day ?

I have Windows 7 and BT Broadband. Late afternoon every day it always crashes. Why is this ? I fiddle about and get it back again but there must be a reason ... Sometimes the blue light on the hub stops flashing and sometimes it doesn't.

O great minds -ive just posted same time as you except mine isnt every afternoon.Its definitely a BT problem with our area.
We can maybe swap answers :)

the more users who log on (using the same exchange) the less bandwidth you get, so at busy times when people are going to be logged on you will find slower service and pages not loading, then at quieter times it will be okay

I have no problems with BT and the number of people logging on should not affect your bandwidth.

cazzz as far as I'm aware your broadband speed should not be affected by other users..........sites you visit may be slow if many people are using them.

I've just spoken to bt broardband helpdesk and they've given me a set of instructions to solve this and it worked

What did they say? I am with Sky and it's absolutely crap at times!

no, the exchange local to your house gets one feed for broadband, it is then split up between all the users who are linked to that exchange. ( the box at the end of your street, rather than the main exchange) the more people on that exchange, the slower your internet will get.

if you have too many problems they offer to do a lift and shift at the exchange, although sadly it rarely does any good as everyone else gets lifted and shifted with you.

best thing is to check your filter first if your broadband has suddenly started playing up.

even though BT offer up to 20mb broadband, they only guarantee 56k flex

I just press the restart button on the BT hub, click on the links highlighted in blue at the bottom of the screen where it says the BT hub isn't working, and eventually I get to the end, switch off and on again and it seems to work ... very technical I know.

they said to type these numbers in the address bar at the top:
192.168.1.254, press go, then the bt hub manager comes up, enter the qdmin password on back of the hub and change it in the boxes on the screen, then it will bw fine, and it is, it's been down for hours today.

yes that's the one my hub was affected by and by doing that password reset like the engineer said it's fine now.

Can anyone suggest how changing a router's admin password can possibly have any impact whatsoever on line speed ?
