software for organising your computer if its a mess...?

i have folders and files all over the place on my computer, and i was wondering if there was some sort of software that will 'collect' files and folders and pics etc of similar types, or by key words, or similar names, etc etc from everywhere on your machine, and help you put them all in an organised way - to save doing it all one by one...

The built-in search function is good. Create folders for the file types you want to find. Specify all files then tick the relevant box against each file type. Pictures, Video, Music, Spreadsheets, Documents can all be searched for seperately. When the search has finished, sort by name or file type. "Cut" into folders previously created.

If you are on windows 7 it has the concept of Libraries.

These are where files of various types are shown together in one place. Picture library, Music library etc.

Note it does not actually MOVE any files, but it could be useful for finding them on your PC and showing what fles are where.

Personally I think there is no substitute for sorting them out manually.

Once they are sorted out back them up to CD/DVD and external drive.

Then try to keep your PC tidy as it is much easier to find things when you need them.
