vhs recorder problem

We have a problem with our vhs recorder.!

It is playing ok with sound and video for about 20 --30 minute or so, it then reverts
to sound only ! When we leave it overnight, we play it in the morning, its fine again for about 30 mins, then does the same again .
it has got automatic head cleaner incorporated on it, but you can use it manually as we have done, but it doesnt seem to make any difference.

Basically, we are trying to make a dvd from the tapes of the g/children!
The tapes seem fine while they are being played ..

Any ideas please?

Can I assume that the tapes you are watching do contain video images all the way through?

Hi squarebear! yes, it contains all the kids school plays, concerts etc.

It all been video'd about 8 --10 yrs ago?

Check the connections. If connections ok maybe purchase a new lead.
