Changing My Avatar
24 Answers
I want to chage my avatar. I have an account with Gravatar.com and I see from other questions about this that a link has been offered to google to upload a picture. However, from the millions of pictures on there, how do I make a choice?
The Gravatar account asks for a URL to work from but I don't know any. Any help would be good.

Just use Google images for your search:

When you see lots of possible pictures, don't bother with clicking through to the source page. Simply right-click on the picture (from the 'search results' page) that you like. What you do next depends upon your browser.
If you're using Internet Explorer, select 'Properties'. Triple-click on the address shown in the panel (to highlight it). Right click and select 'Copy'
If you're using Firefox, simply select 'Copy link location'.
Then go to Gravatar, right-click in the 'URL' field, and select 'Paste'.

As long as you can find the URL of the actual picture (rather than of the the page which contains it) you should have no problems. I suspect that my instructions for Internet Explorer will work with the AOl browser, but I'm not sure. (Incidentally, just because you're with AOL you don't have to use their browser. Firefox is far better).
If in doubt, Chrissa1, simply find a picture you like somewhere on the web (as above). Right-click on it and select 'Save picture as' or 'Save image as'. Navigate to where you want the picture stored on your PC (e.g. 'My Pictures') and click to save it.
Then you're in exactly the same position as you originally were.
i.e. you'll be able to upload a picture from your own computer to Gravatar.
