My 6yr old is getting one of these for Christmas which will be opened while we are away on holiday. It says it comes with a built in 256mb internal memory but you can get an SB card to extend the memory. Will we need to get one of these before we go or will the memory it comes with be sufficient for her to use on the holiday? How long will it allow her to record things?

256mb is peanuts - you need to get an SD (not SB) card to increase the memory. A 2GB card should be fine. Bigger cards such as 8GB require the device to be SDHC compatible and I don't know if it is. Check the box/manual to be sure.
