Thanks for telling us.
Sounds like the battery on your Motherboard is going (or gone) flat.
p.s. anyone charging you more than a tenner to replace it is ripping you off. Unless you're happy to open the case and replace it yourself, of course.

thanks naz.....dont really require the clock, is it ok just to leave alone.
it will be likely to cause errors with certain things like windows updates.
If that 'is' the problem, then no, it's not ok to leave it, change the battery asap. If it goes flat you'll most likely lose your BIOS settings.

cant access hotmail account or digital banking !
yep, it will also cause problems with anything that has a security certificate (such as on-line banking)

(the BIOS settings don't really matter, it wll just load the defaults at start up, and they work fine for most people)

The clock being wrong will cause several problems
The clock being wrong renders security certificates out of date. Online systems that set session cookies timeout immediately as you log in. Emails get sent with the wrong date and appear in the recipient's mailbox in the wrong order. With a date in 2003 they probably won't even see them.

You can reset the time every time you start the computer to get around this.

However discharged batteries eventually leak and damage the motherboard (often beyond practical repair, especially in laptops).
Has it reset itself to Jan 1 2003 or is it actaully running backwards?
"... it wll just load the defaults at start up, and they work fine for most people"

This is true, I was bracketing myself with 'most people' again, lol :-)
Perhaps you`re in a time-warp. Do you feel any younger? lol
