LightScribe DVD

I've got an external DVD RW that burns LightScribe images but it didn't come with suitable software to try it out.
The Lightscribe DVD's cost a fortune and someone said today that the quality is really poor.
Anyone used Lightscribe before?
Is it worth it?
I'm thinking, probably not.

The quality is not great, but have a look your self, how good they look is very dependent on the original image used, it's not good at fine detail or shading but anything that is large and bold doesn't look too bad (if you like sepia!)

OH and in my opinion you are better of with CD labels.

I recently got a desktop with a Lightscribe DVD burner on board and despite quite a search I could not find DVD-RWs anywhere only DVD+R & DVD-R .And even then I was limited to single layer. Where have you seen the blanks for sale and at what price??

As regards DVD+R & DVD-R - I wouldnt call 40p each - buying 10 Verbatim brand from Amazon 'a fortune'??. In fact same brand are only 60p in PC World!!!

How does the labelling kit work then, is it software like nero label maker and you print it onto adhesive paper?

puternut, it was ages ago, I don't recall where or how much, just remember they were expensive for what they were.

With regards to the labels, yes very much like that, in fact if you have nero that will let you design cd labels. You have to make sure that the labels you buy are compatible with nero if you go that way though.

I'd still suggest getting a label kit if first if only to get the label applicator which ensures the labels are stuck on the CD centrally, it's possible to do by eye, but it's a pain and if you get it slightly out the CD tends to vibrate a lot in the drive (not good for the drive)

Attempted to install the software from your link Chris but apparently I need a newer version. It wouldn't install.
I went to the lightscribe sight and lo and behold you have to pay for it !

You should also be aware that using LightScribe, it takes longer to write the label that it does to write the DVD itself.

LightScribe is rubbish isn't it rojash?
You still have to pay extra for it, even though they sell you the drive saying it's all ready to go.

I wont be bothering with it.
