E mail on mobiles

If someone has a smart phone, and receives an e-mail, how do they view attachments such as Word documents?

I don't know. I haven't got a smart phone.

I just wondered what someone who has one does if they receive an e-mail with an attachment.

on android you can send and receive documents via the gmail account your phone is associated with by using the documents to go app (there are other ways too)

I'm sure you can do the same on others with the appropriate app (hopfully others such as mobious, (who is better on apple stuff than me) will know about the iPhone and answer)

So if you receive the attachment on your mobile, how do you get it onto your PC? Do you resend the e-mail to yourself?

(This is just out of interest, I have no intention of getting a smart phone, but I like to have some idea how the world works)

Why do you want it on your PC?

Because that is where you store and deal with Word Documents usually.

It based on webmail, you log onto the webmail from your PC and download the attachment again.

Or configure the SMTP settings on the smart phone to leave the email on the mail server...

Oh I see.

I use Outlook Express, and didn't know there was an option to download an e mail message a second time.

As you can tell, I am struggling keep up with technology. (like the majority of the population I suspect)

Wouldn't the SMTP settings all depends on the server? I don't know, I'm asking...
