Laptop battery

I need to replace the battery on my HP Pavilion DV6-1215sa laptop. I have found the correct part number from HP (484170-001) and have found several batteries with this part number online to buy.

Thing is my current battery has a capacity of 4200mAh and I can only find replacements with higher capacities such as 4800mAh or 5200mAh, even though they have the same part number. Will it be ok to get one with a higher capacity? And in fact should I find one with the highest capacity possible?

There should be no problem fitting a higher capacity battery – but it might take longer to reach a fully charged state.
The increased battery capacity is probably due to improved battery technology since you purchased the laptop. The increase in battery capacity will give you longer laptop operation (on battery power).

You will need to weigh up the cost of the increased battery capacity – but if you often find yourself running the battery flat, then go for the highest capacity battery.

Be aware that some suppliers have been known to make exaggerated claims for battery capacity.

More laptop battery replacement advice

I assume that this is the first time you have had the need to replace your laptop battery. Others have reported (on this site) that by the time it came to replace their laptop battery – the particular model replacement battery was no longer available. The reason for this is that the laptop manufacturer no longer produces a laptop model having the same physical size battery and/or electrical contact arrangement.

With no market for the battery, production is discontinued.

You could consider buying two batteries (with one as a reserve), but I would not recommend this since after 3 years of inactivity (charge/discharging) the battery is likely to be no good.

If your current laptop is likely to meet your needs for a few years yet (and you use it for extended periods on battery power), then regularly check the availability of the battery on a number of sites. Once the battery begins to become scarce, purchase a replacement and consider regularly swapping the batteries to avoid the new battery sitting around unused for an extended period.
