Search IN my computer.

its a word document saved as "Doc.doc" (silly of me I know - I wasan;t thinking straight when I saved it obviously
No problem, just search your computer for doc.doc
Anything I scan on here automatically goes into a folder in Documents called My Scans. Could be worth looking for a folder like that.
On XP the search can be found on the right hand side of the start menu.

On Vista & Windows 7 there is a search bar built into the bottom part of the start menu.

Spare Ed
and if it is XP once the search window has loaded scroll down to the bottom of the left pane and click on use search companion to get the old style (usable) search window back!
If you're totally lost, scan in another document and note where you save it ... it's most likely in the same place.
