A friend of mine runs a small pub and is thinking about putting in free wi-fi for the businessmen that get in at lunchtimes, however she already has a wi-fi set up for her
own personal use so she is asking if she can just give out the code for that instead of
going to the expense of setting up a new one for customers, is this possible and if not why not?

If there is nothing sensitive stored on any part/connection to her own network, I don't see it is a problem. Her PC just needs to be locked down well.
She could also network a printer behind the bar for customers use .. also she could issue cards with the security pass, on deposit .. and refund at the customer's departure.

You can't just open up your own network for all and sundry - that is against the terms and conditions of the service.
You have to be wary of allowing such a service in any event:

You can do it legally on a business BB account..
