Tesco v Tesco Extra

Where I live Tesco is 10 miles away. My local pub closed down in November. (Having said that it's still a mile away) Signs have gone up saying it is going to open as Tesco Extra. Apart from being smaller, what's the difference? Is it more expensive than an ordinary Tesco.

Surely Tesco wouldn't sell things at different prices in different outlets.

i thought tesco extra was a big one. And tesco metro was smaller. I may be getting confused.

They tend to be more expensive.In my smoking days a packet of Old Holborn was about 10p dearer than the large Tesco.

They also don't sell much of the Tesco Value range, just the more expensive ranges.

In Northampton, there are 2 large Tesco stores; one in an area which was primarily 'social housing' and one at the other end of town where the 'executive houses' have been built.

The difference in the same weekly shop was considerable.....

the tesco extra's are bigger, normally housing a clothing dept ,electricals, computers, mobile phone shop. opticians and petrol station. they also have 24 hour opening

I have a tesco extra a mile away from my house and a tesco express half a mile in the other direction, the express is okay if you run out of milk or something but across the road from the tesco express is a big co-op with I prefer to use for odds and ends

Jack. I lived in Northampton for a couple of years but it was a long time ago. If I remember correctly there was a Tesco in the town centre and one in the Weston Favell centre. They took over Superkey which was next door. Is there now another one.

Is it cheaper to order online and just pay the delivery charge ... £5 or something?

Not far from Police Headquarters at Wootton Hall.......the new Sixfields stadium is not too far away, either......top of London/Towcester Road.

Tesco End Small Companies Overnight. I got put out of my shop by Tesco 10 yrs ago and their onward destruction of everything in their way has continued eversince. They have bribed councils, paid off politicians, ignored planning restrictions and emptied our high streets. I would quite happily burn every last Tesco to the ground. Ah thats better!!!!

90% of those questioned in my town didn't want yet another Tesco but they have got the council in their pocket and we wait for the same things to happen eastern. Sorry about your business.

Tesco Express is considerably dearer than the Tesco Extra......even the sandwiches are between 10p and 50p more expensive, Cigarettes and wine are a lot more expensive.

One has opened near us, and it has very limited ranges of some things, but loads of shelf space for confectionary.

I noticed that their tills do not have scales in, so most fruit and veg was pre packed.

Loose bananas were 19p each, rather than sold by weight.

As far as I could see the prices generally were the same as big Tescos.
