I have the 10-digit number of a relative's 'cell phone' in the USA. If I want to text/call him, is there anything I should dial before that number?

Also, is there anything he needs to dial before my number if he wants to call me?

1plus the area code then the number

e.g. area code - 123

number - 456-7890

= 1123 456-7890
The person who's calling you should dial 011 before your number

e.g. 011- 12345-123456
I think you have to "drop" the zero at the start of his number (and he drops the zero at the start of your number)

The number he's given me doesn't have a 0 at the beginning, It's (e.g.) 123 456 7890. So I'm assuming the first three figures are the area code (although it IS a cell phone - do they have area codes?) and all I need to do is put a 1 at the beginning.

I'll give it a try at least.
