Blackberry problems!!

I've got a Blackberry curve 8520 and have had it for about a year. The past couple of weeks its completely broken. It is as if the 'select' button is continually pressed down - it selects things when i dont want it to, sends messages halfway through me writing them and is just generally impossible to use. It will do this for a few days adn then spontaneously it will be OK again for a day or so, and then the same pattern emerges.

Does anyone know why this has happened? Can I do anything to fix it? I've had a look at the keyboard and it doesn't seem to be a physical problem - there's nothing sticking any of the keys down. Does anyone have any idea how much it would cost to fix something like this??

Im considering chucking the BB and getting an iphone, but they're so flipping expensive! The only ones in my kind of price range is the old 2g one. Is this worth it? Or would I be disappointed?
