If it was the interent then the internet would stop working but your computer would be able to do other things (like play a game or write a word document).
Could be a number of things but my first guess would be overheating (particulalrly if it is playing a game at the time which will "work" the computer hard).
Is it a desktop or a laptop?
If it is a desktop make sure there is plenty of space around it so it can draw in cold air.
Make sure the air vents are not clogged up with dust or fluff.
If it were my PC I would take it outside and blow out as much dust as you can with a hair dryer (on cool setting). Dislodge any fluff or dust with a wooden object like a toothpick (dont use metal).
If you feel really confortable take the side off the PC and blow out any dust and fluff from inside the case. Be careful not to dislodge any cables.
If it is a laptop it could still be overheating. Try blowing out any dust or fluff, and get one of thise "trays" that hold the device off the surface allowing air to get underneath.
