msn messenger?

Hi all, im thinking about downloading msn messenger. I dont know much about it, is it safe? weres best to download it from? please give me some advice as im not experienced with it

To be honest i am not a big fan of msn messenger as i can rarely get it to work properly and has a psycopathic mind of it's own, however i havn't convinced my frieds to use another messenger so i am stuck with it, if all you want to do is chat it is fine but for sending files, web camor audio it is truley awful. MSN messenger 7 has made some improvements but it is canceled out by the awfulness of the nuges and winks (please kill the man who decided 'wouldn't it be a great idea if you could shake the other persons window or play some chesey animation,' My advice is if a lot of your friends are using it get it but try a few out first 9also try to disable windows messenger because the 2 fight between themselfs and just cause trouble)

It's as safe as any other internet based application.  I've used it for a few years with no problems.  If you want to do video conferencing with it, you will need Windows XP.

Another alternative is Trillian which encompasses all the popular chat programs (ICQ, Yahoo, AIM, MSN and IRC).

If, while using Messenger a friend appears to be sending you a file ending ".pif" (or even ".scr") then it may be that they have a virus/worm which is trying to spread to you.  Do not accept that transfer.
