Always holiday in the same place?
19 Answers
Who is content travelling to the same destination year on year? And who hates the thought of returning to the same destination and wants to explore as many locations as is possible? Pro's and con's...... discuss??
Reason I bring it up, a colleague of mine has been holidaying in Spain for 20 years, to the same resort and usually the same hotel. It is the familiaraity and "knowing what you are getting" that appeals to him. A holiday should not be stressful, "What will it be like, will I regret booking this place etc...?"
I on the other hand want to see as much of the world as is financially possible and practical for the family. I do find some destinations more appealing than others and if I had the opportunity to book a late break I would probably go somewhere that I knew was a good location for us. However, I enjoy planning a holiday for the future and reading up about where I am going to go, immersing myself in the different cultures etc...

We had some truely good holidays there ,all three of us would never have dreamt of a summer holiday anywhere else.If we were lucky eniough to have a winter holiday too we would go somewhere different though.
We have a little rota of cities (Krakow, Prague, Bruges, Amsterdam, Tallinn) where we return to for short breaks, maybe once a year, as if we are there for only 2 0r 3 nights, say, it is nice to have some familiarity with where we are and to our return to favourite places - especially restaurants and pubs/bars!- as well as discovering new ones.
However for longer holidays we tend to look for places that are new to us in order to experience and explore different countries and cultures etc.. So ideally, finances and time permitting, it would be one new and one old per year!

Usually we aim for different places, but occasionally if we have had a really good time somewhere we do a repeat visit.
Recently, we've had really good deals at smashing places, but no reasonably priced offers have since come up. We still keep looking and hoping.
Last year we took the grandchildren to a Cote d'Azur mobile home site we had taken the children to in c. 1986, and it mostly went well, apart from the short opening times for the pool, and the ludicrous French diktat that only speedo-style swimwear could be worn.

Both options are good JD.
I love going back to Perthshire and Dartmoor (usually the same cottages) because I love the areas and you get full value for your time - no faffing about finding good shops/pubs etc and no days wasted doing something which turns out to be a disappointment.
On the other hand, planning new holidays and exploring new places is great. I had a cracking holiday in the SudTirol last year - I spent ages sorting out the travel (by rail via France/Switzerland/Austria) and then the 10 days in Italy were just brilliant.

I can see the "same hotel" argument.
When we ( BF and I) fancy a couple of nights away, we start off looking at new places to try, and end up checking in at the Mirador Kempinski in Montreax ... which is so close to where he lives, that it's hardly worth bothering.
But there's that comforting "here we are again" feeling.

My father is in a nursing home and my wife has passed away.
At present I am generally taking short holidays not too far away and have friends in various part of the country.
Oddly enough 3 different groups phoned me and said they are going to the same hotel in Nantwich at different times.
I said I will go with all of them so I have been twice in 2012 and I will be going again soon.

Mrs Zacs and I always went to different places until about 5 years ago when we found somewhere that had everything. We were there 6 weeks ago and are lucky enough to be going again in 2 weeks. Sometimes something just clicks and you think 'why risk it?'. Having said that we are thinking of somewhere different next year and have planned a trip to New York for our significant anniversary.
