My Laptop is fine for using during the day and I usually use my Kindle Fire at night in bed but I also have a MacBook lying around. I can't get my head around it - and I have tried over the years.

Instead of purchasing another laptop (my hands shake and this makes using the Kindle difficult)do you think I could install Windows 7 on the Mac and then I can use that instead.

I don't need[i another laptop but I [i]want] one.

Hi Susan

The hardware on a PC is designed independently of its operating system. So, for example, you can have Windows on it or Linux or both. However the hardware on an Apple Mac is designed specifically for use with Apple's operating systems and you can't install any other operating system on it. (There's probably someone, somewhere who's actually managed it but it's certainly not easy).

So, regrettably, I have to tell you that your plan won't work. You'd need to buy a Windows 7 netbook. (My local secondhand shop sells them for around £60).

PS: There's nothing crazy about loving cats. The cat-loving part of me is the sane bit; it's just the rest of me that's crazy ;-)

you can run windows on a mac but its not cheap, not always reliable and IMO slows the Mac. There is an app supplied with the Mac OS called Bootcamp which makes a bit of the Mac memory think its Dos instead of Mac OS. You can then buy a copy of windows and run it on the Mac. This used to be called running an emulator, no idea what its called now. You can also buy an app called Parallels which does the same thing. Either way you will need to buy Windows. Summary: its not cheap, not reliable, not elegant and eats your Mac’s storage but if you gotta then its possible.

Thanks to both of you. I will just play with my Kindle until it dies. It is perfect for using to read or play games. I won it in a competition. I actually won the MacBook and my ipod another competition.
