My two grand daughters live by the sea in Dorset and are on way to us now, as I type, for a week. I'll show them the clip to hopefully bang it home though the elder one is a sea cadet and should be aware. She has capsized enough times during dinghy drills.

I used to carry out similar activity when I was a kid - nobody ever got swept away, but of course that is part of the problem - many kids can do it and always get away with it but that doesn't necessarily mean it's safe - one slip or one freak wave and whoops, it's too late to do anything about it.
This girl was very very lucky.
But kids will be kids, and we warn them about so many things that never come about so they put it down to just another example of over-protective parental behaviour.
