Idly flicking through Facebook I came upon a Tui ad for holidays in Tunisia.

Something stirred in my mind so I checked on travel advisories and found:

Protests, demonstrations and strikes can occur throughout Tunisia with little or no warning and may turn violent. Strikes may affect essential services including ground and air transport services (see 'Safety'). We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in Tunisia overall due to the threat of terrorism.19 Sept 2024

Does this demonstrate a lack of foresight and duty of care for customers or an earnest attempt to rebuild the tourist industry in that country?

Very cheap compared to others btw, but maybe not enough to risk your life for.

I wouldn't mind doing the Tunisian Star Wars tour.

That's not the Tour you're looking for mozz 😁

😂

Having had my worst holiday ever in Egypt a few years ago, I wouldn't holiday in a Muslim country again even if the holiday was free.

There was a massacre of tourists, including 30 from the UK, there about 7 years ago.

Some might think that was a long time ago, but I wouldn't go there if they paid me in

Finished pillaging the other threads Tora? Come on then, fill your boots and expand our knowledge of, well, everyfink.

Some years ago, my next door neighbour went to Tunisia for a holiday with his wife, 10 year old son, 14 year old daughter. Everywhere they went, he was offered "many camels for your boy and girl", especially the boy. A very unpleasant experience. Needless to say, he never went again.

They do that for the tourists, clarion.   If anyone accepted their offer they'd run a mile!

Tunisia can be a bit dicey - it always has been - some there don't like westerners much - but most people seem to come home unscathed.  Beautiful beaches.

Well, if they do that for the tourists, it's hardly going to make people want to return.

I think most people know it's a joke, clarion.  Very few people own camels.

Even so I'm sure it would frighten most people.

On a visit to Nabeul  market a stall was selling live chickens..if you wanted to eat it today they killed it in front of you..if it was for the weekend you took it home live, and did a diy job. This was trumped by a guy who purchased a live goat and slit its throat in the gutter. Tunisia..great beaches...flies the size of sparrows!!

I wouldn't go there if you paid me either, & years is not lonfg enough for me to not worry I'm going to get shot on a beach BUT to add a bit of perspective if you look up any country on the Foreign Office travel advice it will list a host of things to worry about, general crime as well as terrorism. Try checking out some of the Caribbean islands some think of as paradise. I've been 5 times, there are people there who think of nothing of putting a gun to your head for 20 bucks...

I wouldn't holiday in a Muslim country again even if the holiday was free.

Arppound 30 y ago they massacred 30 Europeans on a beach - well no different to Gaza now, yeah OK no one wd go on holiday to Gaza ....and it is different now. The Tunisians regard themselves as southern Europeans - jammed in a sea of Arabs. That is why they were er given their own country

Deskdiary - can I ask what you didn't like about Egypt? We were considering it as a holiday destination but I get what you say about Muslim countries.

What on earth are you talking about?  No - please don't try to tell me.

^That was to Peter Pedant.

yeah I met an Anguilla ( litts nevis and anguilla) and reminded him of olden times

No he said - we are all Millionaires now....  we own but do not run hotels and all the Americans come for the sun sea - and lack of violence

safety v v v impt  ( an american did time ( "I claim the 2nd amendment" etc)) for importing two bullets in his luggage in Turks and Caicos. In April, Tyler Wenrich was fined $9,000 and sentenced to time served for bringing ammunition to the islands.22 Jun 2024
