NIle Cruise

Would like to do this in January. Have found several tour operators on the net. Surprised that some offer such reasonable rates. Is there a catch? Can anyone recommend a tour operator please?

i did the nile cruise in 2004 with Cosmos who were very good...its worth shopping around on as a lot of the boats only offer tour guides were a few have egyptologists and it can make a massive difference on the trip...we did notice a few people on the boat had paid totally different prices...also if you can go for a junior suite as it makes it a bit more comfortable (a lot of these boasts are rather old)
It is not just general terrorism in the Middle East that has caused a big drop in tourists to Egypt - they have had some incidents in Luxor & The Red Sea resorts where tourists were killed. However I have been and they have loads of tourist police around and I'm sure it is as safe as anywhere is these days. The holidays in Egypt are very good value.
I went on a Nile cruise with my daughter in January 2003 which was perceived as a dangerouse time to travel there. We saw no trouble at all and had a wonderful holiday. It was done through Viking travel and cost around 499. We went on every tour except the hot air balloon over the desert and they added an extra 80 a head to the cost. We had the services of two egyptologists and entertainment was laid on every night of the 10 day cruise. Make sure you go when the Esna lock is passable and take the coach trip to Abu Simbel rather than flying down. Its marvellous crossing the desert and watching the sun rise. As I said, a wonderful holiday which I would thoroughly recommend. I agree with the other person. Please tip the crew members well as they work very hard for little money.
