I live in the uk (essex) and my friend lives in australia (near melbourne). We are trying to plan a holiday for next year (between may-july ish) and trying to find somewhere that is halfway in between so we dont loose too much time away. I know this is a long time in advance but we have to save the money. Preferably all inclusive if price is right but not to worried if price is right. If any one has any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Flights from Melbourne only go to certain places direct - otherwise they go via Sydney which adds considerably to flying time. The places that your friend can get to from Melbourne direct are places like Kaula Lumpur, Singapore, Bangkok & Dubai. In all case one of you has a longer flight. Eg Melbourne to Dubai is approx 14 hrs but London Dubai is 7 hours. These times are reversed if you go further East - to Singapore for example London/Sing 12-13 hours, Mel/Sing 7.5 hrs

Los Angeles is approx 17 hours from Melbourne via Sydney & 11 hours from London.

Don't think you will find anywhere that is exactly the same flying time for both of you - just go for somewhere you fancy.
Mauritius - about 12 hours from both cities.

Tokyo - 12 hrs from London, 10 hrs from Melbourne.

Shanghai - 10/11 hrs Lon, 11/12 hrs Mel.
id guess south africa???

tell me if im way wrong btw
Here is a map which shows a rough track of the midpoints between London and Melbourne.

Ive looked at Mauritius and it looks fantastic. Ive always wanted to go to South Africa but been put off by friends stories. Think i have to pick the right place thou. Thanks for the ideas.
Try Singapore!!

There is so much to see and do... and if you fancy combining the city with a beach retreat you could stay at one of the beach hotels on Sentosa Island.. it's attached to Singapore by a small causeway and is five minutes away from all the sights of the city!!!

Jo
where did you go in the end ? cos im in the same situation! x
