Anyone ever crashed in the dorms in J-Hoppers Kyoto?

I've a bedin a dorm , but not managed to find a place in a ryokan, however I'm torn between the two. I think the Dorms might be fun as I'm travelling Japan on my own and should get to meet some interesting people, however, a private room in a Ryokan has its draws too! ( bear in mind its taken me 15 ryokans to find a vacancy!)

Which of the two do you think would be more culturally
beneficial?
