I've been to Fort William and surrounding areas, it was lovely and highly recommended. It took about 6 hours to get there from the Midlands, including 2 or 3 stops on route.

Hi Edwards, as cheeky chops says too far from where and how are you travelling, plane, car, bus or train? i lived in the Highlands for almost 30 years and getting around isn't easy without your own transport outside of the towns. inverness is a good base if you're driving. Lots to see eg Loch Ness, CullodenBattlefield. It'll probably be quite cold right now so wrap up and not all the visitor sites will be open all day. It is very beautiful so enjoy the trip.
