i'm looking for a nice place in england to move to, i don't want to live in the middle of the city or in the middle of nowhere, i like to be in the countryside but be close enough to shops and a good night out. any suggestions where this could be?

North, South, East, West, Midlands? England is a fairly big place! Where do you currently live?

north yorkshire, that's the thing i actually don't know where i want to be just trying to find somewhere nice
Billericay in Essex
Avoid Burnley.
....... indeed avoid everywhere north of Watford.
Don't listen to people like buildersmate, they've probably never been north of Watford Gap (which is what the actual expression is!). I have lived in the North West, South East and South West of England and can name plenty of nice places, but you're going to have to give us a bit more to go on, like your age, size of place you want to live in (City, large town, small market town, village).
Skipton or York would be ideal, trendy shopping, grown up civilised night life but with a rural surround
Cheshire - it's a beautiful county. It has some lovely rural villages with easy access to larger towns and cities with plenty of nightlife, good shopping etc. Market towns with street markets, farmer's markets for superb fresh foods. Forests, lakes, riverside pubs, and lots of events in the countryside, country parks, and one of the largest and up to date zoo's in England. Just about a bit of everything. Well worth considering. You could try googling Vale Royal Tourism, Cheshire, which would give you a good idea of what there is on offer. Hope you find somewhere nice.

Cheshire is a good choice, as Schutzengel says. (Contrary to popular belief, you aren't falling over WAGs and footballers all the time). It has a lot in quite a small county and the 'delights' of Liverpool are just the other side of the tunnels. There's plenty of open countryside, too, plus some pleasant coastline.
I agree with dot.hawkes stay in Yorkshire. Have a look at Otley. lots of great local pubs, near enough to Leeds to commute to work and for a great night out and in the middle of stunning countryside.

i actually worked in otley for a while, i'm not sure if i want to live there on a permanent basis though, it's very close to where i currently live.
i've lived in harrogate, ripon, leeds, northallerton and fulham.
i just fancy a bit of a change.
thank you all for replying. i'm hoping to find a place that i just fall in love with ( i know that sounds silly!)
Northumberland is beautiful, countryside, fabulous beaches and near enough to Newcastle for city shopping, restaurants, theatre, excellent nightlife. This area has it all.
If you have a little spare cash - go on 'weekend breaks' to different parts of the country. I did this a few times and ended up in Brighton for several years :)
(Not everyone's cup of T tho. I def would not go back to live in the town as it is now a city and full of Londoners who have hiked up the prices!).
Sussex (East & West) are nice places, as it parts of Hants.
Second time around I would want something quieter these days - maybe Dorset or E.Anglia.
The world is your oyster!
