Hotels in Sidmouth
7 Answers
I want to take my elderly parents away for 5 days and I know they like Sidmouth. I'd like to book a 5 star hotel but I know my parents won't like the food there. They're in their 80s and like traditional meals i.e. roast dinners, fish and chips etc.
Any suggestions most welcome.

I don't think many 5 star Hotels would serve the cuisine your parents like (not even in Sidmouth) but if the hotel does B&B you could take them out for an evening meal. There is certainly no lack of " traditional" restaurants in Sidmouth.
The hotel website has a sample menu page, which should give you some idea of the food,AND if your parents would like it.
Good Luck!

Hi there again Sue,
Here are some more good quality hotels in Sidmouth.
The following three are all on the seafront, and appear to have suitable menus:~

http://www.royalyorkhotel.co.uk/
http://www.bedfordhotelsidmouth.co.uk/
The Bedford in particular has the best menu I have seen for your parents (it even has Fish & Chips!)
They all have direct seafront view rooms too.
These two are a little way out of the town centre (on the cliff) but both are very posh, The Royal Victoria being probably the poshest in Sidmouth!

The Mount Pleasant is a family run hotel, quiet and away from the seafront in its own gardens. It also has a quite suitable menu for your parents.

The Royal Glen you have seen already.

Now,which do I recommend?
Thats a difficult question because it is so personal a judgement, but I will have a go.
I discount the Royal Victoria and The Westcliff because of their position.
The three on the seafront are equally good, with the Bedford being best for menus for your parents.
If quiet is something they value, then the Mount Pleasant is ideal.
Which have I stayed in?
The Royal Victoria, nice but a bit fussy and grand.
The Mount Pleasant, small but charming and feels like someones home.
The Royal York, wonderful views, nice staff and food, and of course very central.
If you have any other questions fire away I will do my best to answer them.
We would have liked to have moved to Sidmouth, but it proved just a bit too expensive.

Sorry,I forgot to say I have also stayed at The Royal Glen which is good too.just try and get a room in the old part of the hotel.
You can sleep in Princess Victoria's Nursery if it's available! LOL
It is also a wee bit of a walk from the town centre (but not the promenade) it is near The Royal Victori and The Westcliff, but not so far out.(both these hotels require walking uphill a bit)
