Hotels in Rome centre

Hi there

I am hoping to go to Rome in september and will be taking my mum. Although she is an active 75 I would like somewhere quite central to th sights if possible.

Never having been to Rome I don't know how 'big' it is and whether its feasible to have somewhere close to the colosseum, Trevi fountain etc Or whether Rome is a spread out city.

At the mo the trips are quite cheap so I would prefer 4* plus.

Any recommendations or, if not, an idea how I can search for said hotel?

Can't disagree with the hotel suggested already, and also that area.

Rome is actually a fairly small city and it is possible to walk around and see most of the sights. There are also plenty of buses and taxis as it might not be so easy for someone of your Mother's age and it could get hot in September.

The streets, buses, tourist areas, etc. can get extremely busy and you have to be wary of beggars, pickpockets, etc.

Have a look on sites such as trip adviser, late rooms, etc. for guest feedback, availability, pricing, etc.

I found it very expensive Maggoty, we sat down opposite the palace in the centre at a pavement cafe, we orderd one large beer between my OH and his friend , a diet coke and a lime and soda for us...23euros..!

Know what you mean about the expense. I love Venice but if you sit in St Marks Square with a coffee its quite expensive but if the band is playing at the time you pay even more!!

I had an impression that Rome was quite spreadout (ie larger than London) but the Hassler will defo be investigated.

Try the Kolbe hotel close to the forum and most attractions it was clean staff were nice food was good to and not too expensive have a lovely trip one thing you must see is the sistine chapel AWESOME

The Hassler is really lovely. We stayed there a few years ago. It was a bit pricey but well worth it. We didn't find Rome too expensive away from touristy areas, which are expensive anywhere in the world. Go up into side streets and you'll find the best places to eat and drink and not at all expensive. Wherever you stay, have a lovely time and watch out for the pickpockets.

I stayed in some ones 10 bed roomed house in a place called Collemincio just outside of Assissi which is north of Rome in Umbria. I love Italy because it is so unspoiled and quiet so you will like it wherever you go........I'm off to Sorrento this July.

it's not too big Maggs, you can easily walk around to get to the various attractions, I was advised to goe early to The Vatican, we went about 9-30ish and I am pleased we did, we went straight inand by the time we came back out the queue was way round the other side, The Trevi is lovely too
