Get a pre-paid credit card from someone like Caxton, they do what they call a Global Traveller card, you load it before you go with a balance in Sterling and when you use it in the foreign country you get a darn good rate of exchange and no commission charges. I used mine in Denmark & Sweden last year and on a spend of about £1000 I saved roughly £50 over using my standard card.
Saga do a credit card with no commission on foreign transactions.
