Whatever you do DO NOT PAY for one. There are plenty of sites that want payment and you can do it yourself for free.

I just renewed mine online a month ago. It's free and all you need is your NHS number or NI number. It took about 5 minutes and arrived in the post within 5 days.

I lost ours and rang them up (not sure who 'they' are though) and they renewed all seven over the phone in minutes (didn't have to give everyone's details as they had them all stored - saved me loads of time).

thank you so much for posting this question I never even realised they had a date on them and just checked mine, it was out of date, only took a min to renew online
