for luggage, the wheeled type, and though i've looked at endless types, sizes, not sure about what to buy. Don't want to spend a fortune, but something lightweight preferably, and will stand up to a deal of wear and tear.

I find Samsonite the best. Yes, you pay a little extra but if you want it to last and stand up to a lot of wear and tear, you won't go far wrong.

have looked at loads of makes, samsonite, are good, was looking to find something strong, but lightweight. I find that no what you pack, half the problems is that the cases weigh so much.

agree with philtaz - one more thing to take into account - I usually travel long haul and have a wheeled cabin bag which is right on the size limits - I have never flown with budget airlines but if you intend to I would check out their size restrictions as I believe they are less than long haul.

I already have wheelie luggage, but one is a pain, as it tips over, though a good bag.
Wanted to look for something to replace it, not just for jetting over to sunnier climes.

the worlds lightest suitcase. It's in a really bright colour - mine is dead easy to spot on the carousel, and it really is light, which is great as I'm travelling Ryanair (again) this summer.

Samsonite and Delsey are the most hard wearing and will last longest, no question. Everyone these days seems to have the `spinners` which make dragging luggage much easier. A lot of new style hard cases (Samsonite are doing them) are like a shell joined with a zip in the middle. They might be OK for the odd holiday but there is a lot of play on the zip and I could see that giving out eventually. There is a make called American Tourister which is made by Samsonite and is their slightly `budget` range.
