North of Scotland in October

Morning all.

Anyone know how bad the snow gets in October on the North-west coast of Scotland? Planning a trip up there to a reasonably remote cottage. Not fussed about getting snowed in too much, more that I'll fling the car off a mountain in the snow? Or be defeated by the first hill we come across covered in snow!

Thoughts? Advice?

The weather depends on the vehicle Bobbi?!

North of Inverness, but on the NW coast.

I think it is a bit north of Ullapool?

And yes, a bit like that Lottie, but there are a few of us - so romantic, but with the added bonus of having the queue for the shower?

Hope I'm right about the location then RH!

"Scattering" sounds reasonable enough to me. Have to keep an eye on the weather report in any case.

Do the Scottish do mead at all?

I know what you meant Bobbi, but it's not what you said :)

I was thinking about taking the old velo, but it's going to be bloody freezing isn't it?

I'll have to keep an eye out for wind-up chargers. Any recommendations for good ones?

Thanks RH, all noted!
North of Ullapool - perhaps near Lochinver? If so, you must eat at the Lochinver Larder - excellent pies, both savoury and sweet. The butchers there does local venison which you can slow-cook in Orkney Dark Island beer to make a beautiful rich stew. They also sell fresh crowdie, lovely at breakfast on toast with some heather honey. The Lochinver Visitors Centre is excellent. There is a really good long easy-walking track from Lochinver towards Ledmore Junction that takes you past Suilven. I envy you - nothing better than a day out in the highlands, returning late afternoon to relax in your cottage with some local shortbread and a cup of tea, and of course a tumbler of single malt - I recommend Highland Park - while it turns dark and blustery outside.

Pies sounds like the perfect thing for a cold evening. We'll have to stock up in case we're forced to stay in and drink heavily....
