Rail ticket refund
I bought an off peak return ticket but did not use the return part of it - can I get a refund and if so would it be worth it if they make a charge? The total cost of the ticket was £17.40. If not worth applying for a refund can I put it on freecycle for someone else to use?

Refunds
Your ticket is refundable.
If you decide not to use your ticket to make all or part of your intended journey then you can get a refund by returning your unused ticket to the ticket office or place of purchase (for tickets bought via websites, telesales or travel agents) within 28 days of the ticket expiry date. You may be required to pay an administration fee.
The refund amount will normally take into account any use you have made of the ticket and in some circumstances no refund will be paid.

Don't bother.
Off-peak return fares are usually only a tiny amount dearer than off-peak single fares. For example, Wymondham to Peterborough return is £17.70, whereas Wymondham to Peterborough single is £17.60. So you're only owed a few pence anyway (even if you don't get charged the usual £5 administration fee).

Chris
Chris is right, as usual. You will have to put this down to experience, and not make the same mistake again.
"Experience is the name people give to their mistakes".
"Learn from the mistakes of others. You will never live long enough to make all of them yourself".
"Only a fool learns from his own mistakes".
Sorry don't know where all these quotes come from, but they sound good.
