Peregrine Falcons in Manchester City Centre

There have been some falcon projects round Manchester city centre for a while now, stunning birds and, although difficult to see as they are so high up, easy to locate due to their cries as so distinctive.

I was wondering though, how well would they hunt around a city centre to find sufficient food to survive? I can only think maybe pigeons (of which they are plenty!). Not sure if they go for rats etc... but would have though they would be severely hampered in spotting and getting to them in the city let alone being brave enough to come down that low.

Not a bad week for wildlife spotting. Was on the metrolink (tram system) one evening last week and there was a fox trotting down the opposite platform bold as brass and still in daylight.

pigeons would be an excellent reason for peregrines to stay in the area,Jenna. We have them on Derby cathedral and Nottingham university. It's just like a Mcdonalds to them. They've got super keen eyesight and could catch anything that moves.

Peregrines adapt very well to city life - high buildings to nest in and all those pigeons! They eat other birds too so there will be plenty for them to survive on. They are wonderful birds to watch and listen to

They are facinating, am going to go and find the viewing spot. They were easier to spot when they were around the town hall few yeas ago and their call is so distinctive it's good for trying to spot them, just usually so high up though - tempted to get some binoculars but it might get me into trouble in the city centre haha :) Just such a strange sight round here.

Thank you so much for that Snakeeyes! Love the otter sighting, I adore otters, one of my favourite creatures - just gorgeous! Quite amazed though they'd be in the city centre - should keep my eyes peeled more and maybe look closer rather than assuming it's a rat bouncing along. The badger is even stranger!

I'm such a sucker for wildlife, so wanted to see racoons when I was in Canada and it took a long time and a very indulgent Canadian friend of staking out areas near bins on rubbish collection night but finally found some to look at from a bit of a distance (as recommended by most of the locals who thought I was mad), gorgeous creatures!

There is probably a healthy population of Peregrines in all our big Cities as there will always be Pigeons available as food. Good thing really as the Pigeons can become a real Pest when there are no Predators

Can birds like this eat any food they find lying around in the street or in bins?

If so then they can survive in Manchester then.
