Travelling to Dubai with a conviction

can a New Zealand citizen(currently living in Australia) with a criminal conviction travel to Dubai. Don't know if it matters but the conviction is about 9-10 years old.

I have already been to New Zealand and back again a couple of times, I just have to produce a letter I got from the Australian embassy in New Zealand. That's why I asked about Dubai because on the Australian incoming card it asks about convictions, I could have lied.. But chose not to
So do you have to get a Dubai visa prior to flying, or do they hand them out like incoming passenger cards? Thanks for all the help by the way guys, appreciate it.. :)

You can get a 30 day visa on arrival - I don't know what forms if any you fill in
