can a New Zealand citizen(currently living in Australia) with a criminal conviction travel to Dubai. Don't know if it matters but the conviction is about 9-10 years old.

you mean transit through, visit as a tourist or live there? I've been there as a tourist and they haven't enquired about my record.

Ha yea sorry just as a tourist, short holiday really. So on the incoming card it doesn't ask about convictions? Where did you travel from?
Well put it this way. If you are applying for a long stay visa there's no question about a criminal record on the application form and it's not one of the documents you have to produce.

So I'd say Dubai don't care.

Slightly tongue in cheek - will Australia let you back in??
from the UK. Here's the visa application form

http://sysconnect.co.in/dvpcform/default.aspx
That form is for Indian nationals, jno - but it does confirm the lack of an interest in criminal records

Haha, yea no trouble getting back to Australia. I have already been to New Zealand and back again a couple of times, I just have to produce a letter I got from the Australian embassy in New Zealand. That's why I asked about Dubai because on the Australian incoming card it asks about convictions, I could have lied.. But chose not to

So do you have to get a Dubai visa prior to flying, or do they hand them out like incoming passenger cards? Thanks for all the help by the way guys, appreciate it.. :)
You can get a 30 day visa on arrival - I don't know what forms if any you fill in

Your airline should be able to give you more information.

<<If your country of nationality appears on the list below, no advance visa arrangements are required to visit the UAE. Simply disembark your flight at Dubai International Airport and proceed to Immigration, where your passport will be stamped with a 30-day visit visa free of charge. This can be extended for an additional 30 days at an additional charge>>

New Zealand is in the list
