It rather depends on your age and what you like to do. I live in North Wales and love it. I moved here from Cornwall and prefer North Wales as it has the coast and the Mountains and is within distance of several large cities. There are lots of caravan sites all along the coast and some a bit inland if you prefer. As far as Hotels go I think llandudno would be the place....

Working westwards:
Prestatyn is little more than a collection of caravan sites, with a few shops. Avoid
Rhyl is tatty. (OK, I admit to loving the place, but I've got some odd tastes!)
Colwyn Bay is a bit nicer, but I still wouldn't really recommend it.
Rhos-on-Sea is pleasant for people who like 'somewhere quiet'.
Llandudno has the most to offer. The bay is sheltered, making it something of a 'sun trap', away from the winds. There are more attractions than anywhere else on the North Wales coast:

Or why not try Anglesey also very nice
Rowanwitch and maclarencat are spot on with their assessment. If you wish to have a quiet and peaceful Holiday in North Wales then Anglesey with its unspoilt habitat is the place to come to.
Nice beaches and plenty of accommodation with easy access to Snowdonia and the rest of the North Wales coast.
Llandudno is one of the most popular Towns along the coast, although Colwyn Bay and Rhyl have their merits as well.
Get in touch with the North Wales Tourist Bureau and request some Brochures.
