shisha / waterpipe..

.. or whatever you want to call it!
right, there's no shisha category, so I'm posting here for you "educated" people.
I've never smoked, I've never tried drugs so my question is this.. my son (14) is obsessed with getting a shisha/waterpipe. his mate has one and apparently only uses it with steam/vapour kind of stuff, and not tobacco or drugs.
what do you folks think? he's absolutely not having one if there are any health issues.
thanks, as always :o)

they're usually used with tobacco. Why would he want it just for steam? Wouldn't it be easier to hold his head over a saucepan of boiling water?

Lol, you wouldn't really look cool lugging this contraption around.

Not really, though - the tobacco that I've seen (and bought) at places like Camden market is herb/fruit and molasses based, not actual nicotine impregnated tobacco. You would need to look further into possible health risks of the smoking mixture.
Personally, I would be uncomfortable with a 14 year old experimenting with something like this although I can totally understand his fascination, then again it could become one of those situations where he will do it anyway (in secrecy) if not given permission.

I'd be most surprised if he was only intending to smoke legal substances through it, I know I never did, I could be wrong though. As for the vapourising thing you can smoke marijuana that way by gently heating it so that you just vapourise the THC from the drug leaving the rest unburnt, healthier yes but still taking a drug.
