.. or whatever you want to call it!

right, there's no shisha category, so I'm posting here for you "educated" people.

I've never smoked, I've never tried drugs so my question is this.. my son (14) is obsessed with getting a shisha/waterpipe. his mate has one and apparently only uses it with steam/vapour kind of stuff, and not tobacco or drugs.

what do you folks think? he's absolutely not having one if there are any health issues.

thanks, as always :o)

they're usually used with tobacco. Why would he want it just for steam? Wouldn't it be easier to hold his head over a saucepan of boiling water?

Around here it's called a Bong
Tobacco or Hashish are fav
As jno says, there is usually flavoured tobacco in them, my daughter went on a training for shisha but didn't like it.
I can't imagine a 14 year old getting into shisha pipes without being at least *tempted* to put some skunk/pollen/Moroccan in with the tobacco at some stage ! The standard *tobacco* is not actual tobacco, but a sweet sticky fruit flavoured herbal mix.

I know some of his mates smoke, Trim.. and they're not exactly angelic choir boys, but J hasn't tried it to my knowledge. I'm hoping he's being naive rather than leading me up (another) garden path!

thanks jno, useful link. I'll add it to his Facebook profile :o)
Say no, it's a smoking device and you wouldn't want your child using a smoking device imitating smoking especially when he will probably end up using tobacco on it.
It was actually real tobacco they use over here in Ibiza.

training? TRAINING???!

AP, could he even use one without tobacco?
"Around here it's called a Bong"

A bong and a hookah/ are very different things (the pipes a hookah, shisha is the tobacco BTW)

Have to say I've not heard of people using them with vapour, but even if they are or do want to I can't really see the point unless he thinks it will make him look cool!

Wrongn3mber, I know.. I'm very anti-smoking.

Chuck, I assumed it was just that.. trying to look cool :o/
Lol, you wouldn't really look cool lugging this contraption around.

Not really, though - the tobacco that I've seen (and bought) at places like Camden market is herb/fruit and molasses based, not actual nicotine impregnated tobacco. You would need to look further into possible health risks of the smoking mixture.
Personally, I would be uncomfortable with a 14 year old experimenting with something like this although I can totally understand his fascination, then again it could become one of those situations where he will do it anyway (in secrecy) if not given permission.
Relaxing evening in front of TV wrongn3mber !!
I'd be most surprised if he was only intending to smoke legal substances through it, I know I never did, I could be wrong though. As for the vapourising thing you can smoke marijuana that way by gently heating it so that you just vapourise the THC from the drug leaving the rest unburnt, healthier yes but still taking a drug.

thanks AP, I think I'll not take the chance with that!

well I knew I was naive. I hope he's been just as naive, and not trying to pull the wool over my eyes :o/

thanks to all x
Bucket bongs :-) now that takes me back, not sure when though as I was stoned at the time.
Question Author
smoking and drugs.. it's all a no-no for me, and therefore him too!

trigs, I have no idea what you're on about, lol ;o)
