Morning,

My bf and I are going to Paris next Saturday on the Eurostar. We get there around lunchtime and come home in the evening.

Has anyone got any advice as to what we should not miss?

If it's your first time there; Sacré Coeur, Arc de triomphe with Champs Elysees and Eiffel Tower. With such a short time there you might be better getting about on the metro. Trocadero is the best stop for the Eiffel Tower as it's a lovely walk upto it rather than coming out just underneath it.

Musee d'orsay - every poster picture you ever saw in a fantastic setting. Take the water bus back from Eiffel tower to Notre Dame - not as scenic as many cities but a good way to absorb the city.

My favourite parts of the trip were the Monet waterlilies in the Orangerie (in the Tuilleries garden before you reach the Louvre) and dinner in Cafe Du Homme at the Trocadero watching the lights on the Eiffel Tower after dark.

If you like art, try the Musee Rodin, and the Musee de Cluny.

I'm sure that you'll enjoy it, but might regret not staying longer - time just disappears so quickly in Paris. Next time (and there WILL be a next time!) stay at least a couple on nights, perhaps in one of the many Citadines apartHotels.

Well to be honest you haven't got long there have you? It's like trying to do London in 6 or 7 hours - just not possible! Decide on the one or two things that you REALLY want to do and just do them. For example, if I was going for such a short time, and I'd never been before then I would probably head straight to the Eiffel tower (though it will probably be really busy at that time of the day - first thing in the morning is a great time to go), then possibly to the Arc de Triumphe and maybe a quick stroll along the Champs Elysees.

But those might not be your first choices. Whatever you choose make sure you take the time to enjoy where you are and don't rush off to do too many things in too short a time.

Though of course you may prefer to do one of the tour buses, that way you'll see (if not visit), many of the main sites.

Laugh out loud at Hymie. Yes, spudqueen is right as well. That is not long at all and you will not be able to do Paris justice in this short time. Beware of proposals of marriage as they do not call it The City of Love for nothing. You may be asked to marry your boyfriend in this fine capital city.

Hi Sally,

Maybe visit the Eiffel Tower first, although you won't have time to climb it. Then cross the river to the Palais de Chaillot for the views before walking along the Seine embankment to the Place de la Concorde. From there you enter the Jardines des Tuilleries where you can grab a free chair and lounge beside the pools. By then it'll probably be time to leave for the train home.

If you have a little longer then you could continue past the Louvre to Notre Dame on the Ile de la Cite. Then you will have to shoot back (to the Gare de Nord?).

You should try to spend a few days in Paris Sally. There are so many sights, things to do and places to visit. Many class Paris as the most beautiful city in the world and I don't argue with that.

actually getting up the Eiffel Tower takes a while as everyone's doing it. With limited time I'd go up the Tour Montparnasse instead - a lot quicker. You can also get a nice view from the top of the Arc Triomphe. Monet's Water Lilies, Musee d'Orsay (full of Impressionists), maybe Louvre for Mona Lisa (but also likely to involve queuing), maybe the big shops like Galeries Lafayette and Printemps (next door to it). Notre Dame and Sainte Chapelle are great churches but also queues.

You get a much better photo of the eiffel tower from Trocadero, across the river. Especially in the eiffel tower area be on the look out for people pushing flowers etc into your hands then demanding money - also street vendors with tourist tat who specialise in nicking your cash and legging off.

Mosaic - last time I was in Paris the Trocadero was full of those people pushing tourist tat on to you. They were VERY persistant.
