I wonder if someone can help please.
Mr. Chox and I are off to Amsterdam for a few days in November. We were told that we can buy our public transport tickets in advance, i.e. online from the UK Is that correct?
What is the best way to get into the city centre from the airport?
And - lastly - we are going to buy our tickets for the Anne Frank museum in advance, online, would you also recommend doing the same for the Rembrandt Museum and the Rijksmuseum?

Hi Chox
Jump on a train from the airport to the city centre. Its straightforward and comfortable. Pay at a machine in the station if you have coins at that stage otherwise you need to go to a booth with your fresh new notes.
We visited both museums you mentioned and just rolled up but if there's a special exhibition runningit might be advisable to book. Although Amsterdam can be busy but its not like London or Paris for volumes of people.
A good card to get is the Iamsterdam card. It covers your transport including a canal trip, and entry to most museums.

As well as the train from Schiphol, which costs a grand 7euros, I'd suggest you get a pass from the trams office just outside centraal station. Then you can get on and off any trams or buses as you wish. The hotel you stay in may have a deal with a canal cruise provider of which there are many- we went recently on Lovers, again this starts just by centraal station.It ws both informative and well-run, and they didn't spend their time upselling more products. The one I would either avoid or have low expectations of is the double-decker city bus tour. While it's OK for freelance gawping the quality of the commentary is poor, and the timetabling is unreliable. Especially at 'quiet' times, they will simply not turn up or decide to finish an hour early etc.
The place that it might pay dividends to book in advance for is the Anne Frank House as queuing is mega and you don't want to do that on a short break. But the Van Gogh and the Rijksmuseum should be easy to walk into this time of year - plus don't forget the city museum on the Jordaan side. I wouldn't bother with the newer Hermitage museum out by Waterlooplein as it has that interesting combination of boring, distant and expensive.
