Trucks on Motorway.

Has anyone else noticed how close trucks drive together on the Motorway, to take advantage of the slipstream I imagine. Those following would never stop if the front truck were to have to brake, the police, when you see them on the Motorway, seem to ignore this dangerous practice.

p.s. Whenever I hear about a crash on the motorway it nearly always involves one or more lorries

Surely they are no worse than everyone in their rep mobiles doing 80+ in the outside lane less than a cars length apart...also mainly ignored bu the police.

You are right VHG a crash does always seem to involve a truck.
I do not think cars are as bad as trucks though the average speed on the motorway does seem to be 80mph for cars.

The crash I narrowly avoided on the motorway didn't involve a truck. It did involve a man in a white van though...

on a number of stretches of A14 and M42 in the midlands, HGVs are not allowed to use the outside lane for much of the working day.

This restriction is regularly flouted by truck drivers. The police regularly ignore this situation.

The stats show HGV's to be in the lower half of accident involvement on motorways.

Perhaps Paul they just cause accidents .
My experience is trucks on the Motorways just pull out when it suits them as they are large and they can they do not want to lose speed. I use to drive some 40,000 miles a year and have had some near misses due to the action of truck drivers.

I totally agree with Tony, it scares the poo out of me when I'm on the motorway. I really hate it when they get so close to my car because if I were to break, the great big juggernaut wouldn't have a chance to stop in time. Having said that, there are many cars who are guilty of tailgating. In fact, when my baby was 7 mths old, traffic ahead suddenly breaked coming off a motorway, we heavily breaked in time because we had left a big enough gap for eventualities like this, but the car behind us crashed into the back of us and the car behind him crashed into the back of him! My baby was strapped to the back seat of the car in her carseat and luckily, was fine. The chap had the cheek to have a go at us for breaking suddenly and insisted it was our fault for breaking!

There are a lot of cars who drive to close, but if a truck pulls out you brake and this can cause a concertina effect down the Motorway.
Like scrum, who does not realise most men think they are wonderful drivers, but if she stopped in time and the driver behind was too close and went into the back of her car, it is his fault wonderful driver on not.

This is really bad.The most important fact is its such a dangerous that they can practice with such a heavy trucks.
