roman metro
Going to Rome for Xmas been told to use the metro and to leave the taxis on the rank. How easy it to get around by metro?.My italian is non existent :-(

Like Jno says, it is much simpler than most capital city metros. If you know where you need to get on/off you don't need to speak or understand. It was 1 euro flat fare for all journeys last time I was there - about 3 years ago. Most lines interchange at Termini, the train station - look out for pickpockets and aggressive begging, also be aware that buskers try to...

I did it for a day a couple of years ago - I can't remember how but had no problems. Get a map, of course.

Depending where you want to go, bear in mind no metro stations anywhere near the forum or vatican.

When I was there earlier this year we only used the metro once or twice, most of the time we travelled on the buses. I think it helped that our hotel was quite near the railway station which has a bus terminus outside, so going back to the hotel was great, we just hopped on any bus which said 'Termini'.
btw we found having the Roma Pass VERY useful. We got past all the crowds queuing at the Colluseum and got in other places with it aswell. It was worth it's weight in gold.
