Working Visas

Myself and my boyfriend are planning on packing it all in and going travelling for 18months or so. Ideally, we'd like to live and work in the States for a year and then finish off with a 3 month holiday visa for Australia and a 3 month holiday visa for NZ. I have since read that it is next to impossible to get a working Visa for the States unless you are a student, does anyone know how true this is and who I should officially apply to? It may be easier to do it the other way round and live & work in Oz and NZ for a year, then have a few months to see America.

Thanks Andy - the are based just around the corner from me!

I thought I might need to get sponsorship first. If it was just one of us it might be easier but with the pair of us it could be tricky. Maybe i will do it the otherway round and just have a 3 month holiday there after working in Oz.

Thanks for your help

I agree, I would stay in Oz/NZ longer and the US shorter, this will make your money go further as the US is less 'set up' for budget travellers, whereas there are like-minded working travellers of all ages all over the antipodes, with lovely budget hostels and travel options, which will make for a far nicer experience!

But, you do need to be under 30 to get the working holiday visas for Australia and New Zealand, don't know if this will affect you.

Thanks, we are both in our twenties so should be fine. I've been to Oz before (on a holiday visa) which was why I was looking to spend the majority of the time in USA but its no hardship being in Australia/NZ for any length of time! As long as i get to see a good bit of America i'll be happy - i've got a lot of saving up to do!
