My passport runs out in september 2012.

I hope to go to cyprus this month, and Spain a bit later on, maybe in june?

How late can I leave it before it has to be renewed? Thanks folks for replies x

It just has to be valid when you travel for EU countries

Northen Cyprus may differ - the rules are set by Turkey who are outside the EU. I think they ask for 6 months validity.

Many thanks dzug2. I should be ok for a while then?
Yes.

If you want to renew it, the unexpired validity will be added to the new passport. I don't know if there are any price increases in the pipeline, but if there are you'd avoid them by renewing.

Ah thanks again. I'm a right ole pesimistic aint I , haha. x always worrying
You are OK in EU countries right up to the last minute pusskin. Other than than you should renew 6 months before it runs out. Your next ten year passport will then be extended by the number of months you renewed it before the current one runs out.
Don't forget to factor in how LONG it takes to get a renewed passport......

Cheers Lottie, great to see Abers come to my rescue and help me out. lol
Ours took one week, but longer in the summer months. Best to do it now really if your Spanish Holiday is around September, Pusskin.
Do it through the Post Office for £8.17. They check & make sure everything goes through smoothly.

Mr N's new passport took 3 months over here in Ibiza, but it has to be said that it was sitting in the Brit Consul's office (for collection) for 2½, cos they forgot to phone us!! and kept saying it hadn't arrived when I queried the length of time, but when it was finally found, of course it was my fault!! The Brit consul over here is useless!!

Our Cyprus holiday is the important one as we've waited for a couple of yrs to go there due to commitments etc.
Then we can take our time and renew passport before venturing off again to Spain. thats good news x replies much appreciated

wow whiskeryron. Will do it through post office as I'm no good at p.c. with things like that. £8.17. Thats very cheap.
Pusskin, that is their Admin charge on top of the passport which is £77.00. All they do is check your form to make sure it is OK and send it by special delivery. If you have a passport already, there is virtually nothing much to put on the form and you can send it yourself by special delivery.

You can get a form from the Post Office. When you first see it and see the instruction booklet it looks horrendous and then you realise that there are only a few sections you have to fill in if you already have a passport. You don't have to get anything countersigned either. Just took me five minutes!!
If you are over 80 you can get a cheaper passport which a shorter life!!! Not that I think you are over 80 ;o)
Question Author
ha ha Lottie, thought £8. 17 didnt feel right. I'm a right twirp thinking that was cheap. For a minute I forgot how expensive it really is. lol
Never mind Pusskin. It's our age you know!! We tend to lose the plot sometimes ;o). Enjoy Cyprus.
Question Author
