My Theory about electrical goods

I am convinced all electrical goods have a microchip in them which programmes the item to pack in just after the guarantee has expired.

The only thing I seem to have an issue with is Hoovers.

Done okay with them, thankfully.

Saying that, the price of some hoovers are more than washing machines!

I know ummmm. I was once at the top of the stairs with my brand new Dyson when I caught my foot in the lead. All I could think as I was falling was "save the Dyson."
The Dyson was unscathed. I fractured my femur.

We once had a tumble-dryer which packed up while still in guarantee. A repair guy came and fixed it by replacing a tiny cup-out component. A couple of years later it packed up again and I bought a similar part for £2.50 and fitted in a few minutes. I hate to think what a call-out would have cost.

Often wondered that myself, mrs o. Do we have rights with electrical goods that last longer than the usual one year guarantee?

The EU gives you rights that the product should last what is considered to be an acceptable length of time. Can be longer than the manufacturer's guarantee offered. I'm sure there are other threads on here discussing this and giving details, a while ago.

at least the microchip is reliable.

The manufacturer knows roughly how long the machine will work before things start to go wrong and guarantee them until then. Makes commercial sense. So often shortly after that date goods stop working and you then find out that the guarantee has just expired!

I was once, not so long ago, coming down the stairs carrying a Henry vacuum when I caught my foot in the lead or pipe or something. All I could think as I was falling was, "Blow the Henry, mind my blooming head !" We were both more or less unscathed, but the banister was missing a chunk of paint. Better it than my femur I reckon.
