Easy access to Snowdonia.... and above all the natives are friendly (Unless you take exception to them talking their native tongue as a lot of English people do. Good pubs, fresh seafood if you like it, Not many supermarkets locally, Spa & Kwick-Save and local village post offices cum general stores.
Wonder if I could get a job in the tourist info office, naw! it would spoil it if too many people knew...

Thurso in the far north east of Scotland has everything you could want in a holiday (even a Tesco). There are many historic sites from neolithic cairns through evidence of the Highland Clearances to Dounreay nuclear power station. You're only a short bus ride from John O' Groats from where you can take a ferry to the Orkney Isles and all they have to offer.
The town is small, the natives friendly and it's relatively flat so going out for a stroll isn't a chore.
It's a nice place to relax.

Pembrokeshire coast.
You can walk a long way without being far away from transport links (because the coast goes around the transport hubs.
Either do the southern bit south of Milford Haven (based from Pembroke as a hub) or the better northern bit, based on Haverfordwest as a hub. There is also rail at Fishguard.
Can personally recommend the bit between Broad Haven and Fishguard.
