I've got some Finnish friends visiting Exeter this coming Wednesday and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on things to do or places to visit. I am aware of the Castle and the Passages but do not really know what they are like (I am not from Exeter). Is there anything else worthwhile seeing / doing?

I could say drive in and drive straight out.

Exeter Cathedral is rather beautiful....

For a pub, 6 miles out to the SW, there is the Nobody Inn at Doddiscoombeleigh.....not as good as it used to be as ti was exceptional but still worth visiting http://www.nobodyinn.co.uk/

I would also consider Bovey Tracey (the Arts and Contemporary Crafts Centre is wonderful) http://www.crafts.org.uk/

And Dartington is not that far away. http://www.dartington.co.uk/

Plus you have all the beauty of Dartmoor and the countryside - get off the main roads....Widdecombe etc...

We actually staying in Okehampton, playing golf, which I hate :0( , just going to Exeter for the day. We have hired a mini-bus as there will be 20 of us. Castle Drogo is on the way so could go there and also visit the Cathedral when we get to Exeter.
Personally I would go to Plymouth as there is more to see. Most of the places around Exeter mean more travelling when you get there as most are outside the city so you would spend a lot of time sat in the mini bus.
