Hi all, have just got my holiday tickets (10 days in Italy (Rome / Venice) and am told the baggage allowance is only 15kg each. This is barely more than a decent sized sports bag!, Will I get away without taking anything in the way of jackets / jumpers etc. at this time of year?
15kg is loads. If you didn't want to do any washing there, it's 10 pairs of socks & jocks etc, 1 pair of jeans, 2 pairs of shorts, 3 t-shirts, a couple of casual shirts and a light jumper. Wear something fairly light for the journey including a pair of comfy and non-smelling shoes/trainers. Maybe you could buy one of those packaway lightweight jackets from a camping shop and carry it with you all the time, I do and it (and the trousers!) have kept me dry on many occasions.
And what about toiletries, electricals, shoes? These things weigh LOADS! It's not just clothes you know. If there's a lady/girl travelling too - make up weighs loads! Which airline are you with mats01_99? This will help us answer. The airline's website will tell you too! :-)
Be careful about not going too high over your allowance as they'll make you pay. I paid 28 last year on my way out to Spain. ( either pay or leave it behind. couldn't leave behind as they'd already checked it in). They were ok on the return flight.
Companies like Rohan www.rohan.co.uk and Kathmandu www.kathmandu.co.nz/kat/ (available in UK) specialise in lightweight clothing. You could also make sure your luggage itself is lightweight. As I mentioned before, wear the heaviest stuff in flight. And how many shoes do you really need?
