I've been all over Europe, but at ** years of age I am about to go to Austria for the very first time. Any tips as to what to squeeze in to a short space of time. Preferably cultural tips, museums, old churches, (I know, a hypocritical atheist), buildings of note, good restaurants, that sort of thing.

All help greatly appreciated.

Why hire a car from an Australian travel agent when visiting Vienna? Either hire one locally, or from a UK based company before you leave.

tara20 - will be there in November/December and, as it is my birthday, I think we will be going to see Rapid Vienna as well. Sorry, but I always lower the tone. Ideally would like a museum, restaurant(s), architecture/old buildings, parks, and a Danube cruise if possible (dinner cruise type jaunt).
From the middle of November on, the Christmas markets open.
If you look at the street plan, you'll find most places of interest within walking distance of the city centre.

For cruises on the Danube try this

but I'm not sure about Nov/Dec

Hope this helps

Tara, at first glance this looks fantastic - many thanks. I will take a proper look at it tomorrow after work.
