We're off to Vancouver, Banff and Jasper in September.

We haven't been during autumn before. Does anyone know whether it will be chilly at this time of year? When does the Canadian winter begin?

I have just contacted a friend that comes from there and I am sure she will reply to you soon.
Hi, What a perfect time to visit Canada with the trees turning into their beautiful autumn colours. It can be quite nippy so sweaters and wind jackets but the real winter usually doesn't come until November.

Thank you both. I am looking forward to the 'fall' colours. We have been in the summer and at Christmas time, so have experienced the two extremes. Autumn should be lovely, I think.

Will take a couple of sweaters and an anorak.
It'll be colder up in the mountains than in Vancouver (where it is usually mild and can be wet), so take layers and a brolly.

Thanks for the links, jno.
If you Google for '(placename) annual weather' you'll find loads of links showing temperatures and precipitation tables and charts for your destinations.

We had snow in Banff at the end of August a couple of years ago, but by the time we reached Vancouver, weather was lovely, like anywhere take a jacket and a brolly. have a good time

Thank you jw47.
We've only seen Banff in the winter, Christmas time.
There was a pack of wild Coyotes down on the river bank. Scared the daylights out of us when they started howling!
