Sandy, they don't allow passengers to rise on train roofs in India - google "indian train passenger electrocution", but don't watch the youtube video it calls up unless you really are not squeamish.

No. They haven't with all the past increases on the Cambridge to King's Cross line; standing room only at peak hours; so why would they do it with this one? It'll largely go to protect the shareholders' interests, because the subsidies we already pay to support the railways are ignored in considering such matters.

Scotrail have a great system whereby, on the day of a big rugby or football game, they send trains with three or four carriages, meaning even more people get the chance to stand.
