I can think of a few tips:

  • Minimise your weight by sharing stuff with travelling companions.  E.g., you don't need more than 1 tube of toothpaste between you.
  • Make good use of the side pockets - put things you need easy access to in those.  E.g., first aid kit, torch, energy tablets.
  • Put the tent at the bottom.
  • Make sure the weight is split evenly between the group.
  • Oooh - waterproofs on the top!!
  • Remember that people going on their Gold carry less than people going on their Bronze despite being away for longer.  This is because they learnt the tricks and carried lighter kit, and less kit.  Try to speak to someone who got to Gold and get advice from them!

Good luck! Enjoy it.

Pack the heavier stuff towards the bottom and anything thaty you may need quickly like waterproofs at the top.

Enjoy
